Awning fabric cracking

The awning fabric that is on the outside of the awning when rolled up is cracking badly. The one on my 02 Sunnybrook in the 10+ years I had it did not look this bad. Any others out there with this issue? I am thinking I could coat it with some kind of flexable roof coating. It's sure not going to hurt it now.

Not that this will help now, but some have bought vinyl gutters and used them upside down on awning when stored for awhile.......

Well, my awning is going to end up in a gutter. Seems like it would last longer than 4 years. I even put 303 on it. The metal parts are still perfect.

Hey Highway, seems like a premature failure. Maybe call Dometic (or whoever made the beast) and ask them to stand behind their product? SoCal smog and high temps? Good luck!

Like everything else, it's normal wear and tear. If you sat outside in the sun 24/7 you would have a few cracks too.

The sun is probably what is killing it. The new ones have an alu cover to protect the fabric from the sun.

When mine goes, I'm replacing it with a aluminum cover one. Still good for this year.
I wonder what will give out on me 1st, The awning or tires going high time?

Original Goodyear Marathons born on 11/13.
I had just visually inspected them over the weekend. Still look good. Monitor them with a Tire Minder system and look them over at every stop along our way.

I used eternabond tape. 2 rows and it's perfect. Mine was going bad after 3 years. Spend some time to remove all the flaking and peeling stuff. Then put 2 rows of tape on. Do not stretch. Make sure you start with the tape end parallel to the edge of awning and just lay it down end to end. Take time to rub it down for proper adhesion. This stuff is amazing. It will extend the life for years imo. It blends in so it's not really noticeable too much. I bought the wider roll 4 inch think. With 2 rows it covers all the sun exposed area of awning. I would rate this repair as a 10. Cost approx 50$ for the tape 50 feet. Simple job.
