Black tank rinser not working

Today I drained the black tank and hooked up the water hose to the black tank rinser, turned on the water, and the rinser all of a sudden is not working! Oh boy!

Does this mean I have to cut open the coroplast that's under the trailer to get up to the black tank to take the rinser out of the tank? Is this a difficult job?

Has anyone had a problem like this with this black tank rinser? This one has worked excellently up until now.

Jim

How high is the water pressure? Mine acts up above 50 pounds so I put a pressure reducer on the hose.

Try running some hot water through the tank flush.

Next check the back flow preventer. These are often in the bathroom cabinet. Inside of it there is a check valve as well as air admittance valve that will allow air in and the water to drain out.

Next try filling the tank with hot water.

If the above doesn't work then open the underbelly.

Sorry to hear that. Ours acts up over 60 psi.

This is a big job if yours is built like our GP....you have to drop the bottom cover and insulation sheet, then remove the tank to get to the flush sprayer. That means pulling off the valve system and wiring as well to remove it.

Yours may not be that hard to do if you can get to the spray head without dropping the tank. I would probably never do this job, and just put a hose down the toilet and wiggle it around. Always leave 2 gallons of water in the tank to help.

Good luck and stay clean!

I have a 2019 23DBS and the black tank flush only worked once, turned out the vent anti back flow valve was bad, mine was under the bathroom sink and took less than 5 mins. to replace.

What are you going to put in the tank next that you want it rinsed out. The stuff I put in mine is just more of what I dumped out.

I contacted ORV. They replied that they think this anti back up valve under the sink is my problem. My dealer thinks I'll need to cut open the bottom of my trailer to get at the flusher valve. I hope the folks at ORV are right on this one. I should know tomorrow.

Thanks,
Jim

If you cut an opening, make it only 3 sided, with the 4th side being a hinge and toward the front of trailer.....Gorilla tape it back together....

Problem solved! It was the vent anti back up valve under the sink! No local RV shops had one, so I was going to order one from ORV. Then I thought, why not see if I can fix it. This valve is very typical of today's products. It is made not to be fixed, just throw it away and replace it. That's fine, but I really wanted it working right now. So I worked at it, and what do you know! It came apart! A beatle was jammed inside it and the internal check valve was stuck. How in the world did a beatle get inside it? I cleaned it up, assembled it, and installed it and tested it. It works!

I learned some things about the black tank flush system. The vent anti back up valve under the sink lets the garden hose water through it to get down to the black tank flush, and prevents it from coming back up. I guess that makes sense. Nobody wants black tank water coming up the hose. The valve also has a vent. I'm not sure exactly how that works. When the back up valve is working correctly, it chatters like crazy very loudly as soon as the water is fed from the garden hose. If the valve is not chattering loudly, then water is not getting down to the black tank flush valve.

I also learned that the black tank flush valve is spun into the hole in the black tank until the black tank wall melts around the valve, thus welding the valve into place. I have not been able to find out how in the world I would ever be able to replace this valve if I needed to.

I'm glad that this was the solution to my problem. I hope this helps anyone else facing the same problem.

Jim

Nice! Glad you got it working again. Mine does not make a chattering sound but I know it is working because the water is coming out of the sewer drain.

We are looking at upgrading trailers this year and the ones I have been looking at have flushers on the gray tank as well. Seems like a good idea. I wonder if ORV will start doing that? I try to keep all the food particles out but I am sure some make it down the sink. Would be nice to be able to rinse them out.

I have a 2006 Sea Breeze 1311 that I'm considering replacing my flush with the Tornado Rotary Flush system. I hope I can just remove the existing one that is in the side of the tank. Am I able to just swap one out for the other?

Considering that I am being told that these valves do not all chatter, I'm going to order a new one.

Thanks a lot for your interest and your help.

None of the tank flush nozzles made for RVs are any good.

I installed (spin welded) fittings in the tanks and bought used stainless steel nozzles off Ebay that are used in brewery/chemical tanks.

For a backflow / vacuum breaker I used WATTS LF288A
