I installed the same converter last year. I had no issues during the install. I like seeing the 14.4 volts vs the constant 13.6

keymastr , they are a couple of Optimas 27 or 34, the largest blue tops. We camp at forestry rec sites, oddly enough, they down gravel logging roads, chuckle. Having lost a few conventional batteries to vibration, I'm sold on Optimas. It only takes one plate to come loose.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been thinking of doing the same thing. Whoever installed it originally wasn't going to have them come loose which was a good thing. I would have given up in frustration and just cut the wires off.

For those who don't want to do a converter change, I have carried a separate battery charger for years. I plug the shore power cord into the generator and run a separate cord to the battery charger. Charges much faster than with the converter alone.

If a separate charger charges your batteries faster, your converter definitely has issues.

Converters are easy to replace and don’t cost very much. Installing a new Progressive Dynamics PD converter was the best thing I ever did. Other than adding water, I don’t ever worry about my batteries.

Some chargers are smart ones and will kick out fairly high voltage. I have Schumacker, speedcharger for my trolling motor battery. It will kick out 20 amps, but can over heat, so it has to checked. When I was reading about changing the converter over, someone mentioned a lot of chargers were really only put out about 10 amps, I know the one in my hunting camper is only rated for 10 amps.
