Eternabond tape on the roof seals.
Just wondering what the thought is on using the tape on roof seals. As my roof gets close to the 5 year mark it is needing some attention but not bad except for some light cracks in the Dicor. I read that the Eturnabond tape has a 15 year life in the sun, that will put it well beyond the lift of the EDPM up there. Around the skylights, front and rear caps, and even a 1 inch wide tape down the roof sides would seem to be a once and done job. the windows and other side mounted seals would get the Dicor type product. Not wanting to add roof leaks to the list.

I used it on a previous Sunnybrook and it is not easy to apply and even harder to remove. But it will probably outlast the EDPM up there if applied correctly.

Ray at Love Your RV does bring up a possible point.....whether ORV would honor a roof warranty if the tape was used. I would ask them first.
Otherwise, I would use it for sure.

There was a re seal class given at the rally by the company. No mention of Eternabond voiding any warranty. They feel the Dicor is fine. At a factory, Dicor goes on much quicker, easier, cheaper and probably not a lot of training. That tape is none of those. I have herd that some of the top end RV Mfg do use it. Good for 15 years, I'm good for that.

If you ever has a roof problem the warranty probably would be voided somehow, no matter what you did for maintenance. The roofing membrane is never the cause of leaks, it is always the sealant on the seams. A better seal should hopefully prevent any issues from occurring.

A warranty is great but I prefer not to have to use it. If there are any leaks that cause any damage, it's on you for not maintaining the seals. That guy Ray must have 100 pounds of Eternabond tape on his roof.

Call or send an email to the ORV service folks. If memory serves me the ORV service folks at the campout said they would only use Eternabond tape in the case of emergency. Can remember what their rational was.

I have applied Eternabond to every roof penetration I could effectively do it on and love it. Our 5th wheel spends the summers in south Texas and the sun just eats up the Dicor. We do have a full fiberglass roof however so if we ever needed to remove it, the roofing material would still be intact. With the rubber roof, I would not use it around anything that you might need to replace, such as the AC. It is certainly a little more difficult to apply than the Dicor, but for an old guy like me with bad knees it is worth it only having to deal with a couple of roof penetrations.

At the maintenance seminar they did mention that they could not recommend using Eternabond for anything other than emergency repairs and that it's use would void the warranty. They said they had seen too many failures to recommend it's use. That may have just been covering their butts or reflecting the difficulty of applying it correctly.
They did suggest sealing the edges of the Eternabond with Dicor if you were to use it since the edges sometimes lift.

If you do not have a warranty voiding situation as others mentioned.
1. Eternabond is a great product properly applied.
2. Treat it as a secondary seal. Clean and repair any existing caulk, then use the Eternabond primer and cleaner for even better adhesion and less chance of failure and it is the second line of defense.
3. Poorly applied will give a false sense of security as water leaks in and under the tape which is not visible. I am dealing with that now on my coach. Have repaired several areas and need to rip up all the old Eternabond tape and apply it correctly.

Yep, after sitting through the class at the rally I am going to catch it from the ORVPDMAN. I know that once that Eternabond is laid down it's a bear to remove. Do it right the first time or don't do it. Not really sure how or why it would void the EDPM roof warranty.

Heck, it's a warranty so just about anything you do could be grounds to void it. I probably just voided mine by talking about it.
I think they were against it more because it is difficult to know if it has sealed completely and it could be hiding a leak. Probably why they suggested sealing the edges with Dicor. If you have ever used Eternabond it grips like a bear. Hard to imagine it leaking but it is also tough to get to lay flat and smooth and you really only get one shot at it.

To the best of my knowledge all of the top end 5th wheel manufacturers use Eternabond to seal their front and end caps and the outside edges of their slideout roofs (usually EPDM) with Eternabond, only applying Dicor at the ends of the tape. All other penetrations are sealed with Dicor (or similar) because of the possible need to replace the unit that is penetrating the roof.
I guess I would say, if there is no Eternabond anywhere on your coach now, stick with the Dicor. In our situation on our 5th wheel, since they used Eternabond in some places on the roof, I felt comfortable using it elsewhere.
