Hard Start Capacitors - Supco SPP6 Super Boost

Hello all--

Haven't yet tried my new 3100W/2000W Dual fuel genny yet. 5 hour break in today!

But in the event it does not start and run my 13.5K AC on propane, I wanted to learn a little about hard start capacitors.

Read positive reviews on this one and was also referred to this model by a rep at Champion Power Equipment (Champion Generators).

Anyone use this model and would be willing to comment on it?

How does this $10 capacitor compare to the $200 Micro Air unit often referred to here on this forum?

Thanks!

Supco

Mine works fine......tie-wrap it next to factory one and plug it in....and this one will run fine on a Honda 2000 Companion...

My last trailer had a 13.5 and ran well with the supco using a champion 2000 (not on eco mode). I looked at the micro air for this trailer, but a supco will be going on this one as well.

I am thrifty...ok cheap...supco for me too. Especially for the amount of time I will use my generators with the AC and I have 2 great vent fans.

Hope this helps

Wow! The Suppco SPP6 is super cheap! I may have to order one. Question for those of you who use one of these devices: How difficult is the installation process? Did you do it yourself or have an RV shop install it?

Is it just installed in series before factory cap? Or does it replace factory capacitor?

Pull off the cover on the roof, and maybe a tin cover plate, tie wrap it to the one that's already there, and use the other two plug ins.....and while you have the cover of the A/C, put some aluminum screening insde the cover over the vents to keep fly'n insects out...gorilla tape works good...it lays right beside factory one and the new one plugs in just like the one that's there...2 wires and no splices..

For the price it looks like good solution worth trying but I wonder why they are not installed OEM. Any HVAC guys here that can give a good reason NOT to use them? I'm cheap too but I also don't want to damage my AC and are they UL certified?

Edit: I see the SUPCO SPP6 UL Recognized.

If the factory installed them, no one would be buying replacement parts.....

Obviously. But these are not exclusive to the factory.

The gentleman in the video is attempting to use this on a 15k a/c unit, maybe that is asking too much of the SuperBoost cap.
