Mini solar panel

We live in our 2018 GP30RLS 5er. It just dawned on me that we have never turned on the itty bitty solar panel- yes we are always hooked up to a shore station. My question is- would it benefit anything to turn on the solar in conjunction with SP?

On sunny days, it will lighten the load on the charger, but only a itty bitty.

We leave the solar switch on all the time.

It is only 10 watts and won't boil the battery.

Correction, it will not boil the battery if your battery switch is in the "on" position. I just pulled my trailer home from the storage lot last night and turned the panel off so it would sit all night and bleed off the surface charge so I could get an accurate battery level reading. After sitting for 15 hours with no charge and the battery switch "off" my voltage this morning was at 13 volts measured directly at the batteries. There was also a small puddle of acid sitting on top of each battery and the positive post of each was yellow with acid/corrosion. These are 2 6volt Interstates that are about 2 years old. The water level in each battery was fine so they are not losing much but it was enough to let me know there is an issue.

So I will be adding a solar charge controller to mine so I can comfortably leave the maintainer panel turned on. We are thinking of upgrading so not sure if I will be adding panels to this trailer or not but for about $30 every trailer should have a charge controller. If you store outside with the battery switch off you CAN cook the batteries. If you store outside with the battery switch on the 10 watt panel is not enough and you will drain them.

If you are always plugged in to shore power just leave the panel off.

Solar power switch??

Recently purchased a 2020 24RLS and do not recall seeing a solar power switch anywhere, can you enlighten me where I might find it??

Thanks, Jeff

Solar switch

My switch is on the switch panel right inside the ingress/egress door- and others in this panel include awning, slides, tank readings, etc.

Mine is in a two switch panel mount. Left switch is the solar, right is a red lighted switch for tank heater. They were never marked from the factory. I made labels on the engraver at work.

Guess I must not have the solar panel, have the tank heater switch, salon lights, and outside awning light switches, nothing else though. Will have to get up on the roof and look...

Thanks
