A thousand watts of solar is a ridiculous amount.

My little 80w portable has no problem charging us to full. With more usage I could see a 160w keeping up with anything we throw at it. Including watching movies all day long.

When you start talking 1000w you are also looking at some high end lithium batteries and controller and running a residential refrigerator and other appliances.

I have 300 watts on the roof, and we are heavy user of current. In a sunny spot the solar keeps us topped off with no issues. We went with factory Zamp setup for various reasons and are pleasantly surprised on how well it works. I also have a 200 watt portable that resides in my other camper that I might start bringing along for our trips deep into the woods.

I was able to fit 700W of solar on the roof. With the right size panels you could probably fit more, but finding the right size can be difficult. Our sytem is not Zamp. We don't have a generator.

Cargo weight looks good, but it not what you have left to use in your truck. What is the weight remaining when you fill the truck with fuel, add the family, tool box, grill, etc.?

The GVW of the rks is 8100 lbs. If you use 15% of that weight you will have 1215 lbs of hitch weight plus 100 lbs of hitch. Using the GVW of the trailer is practical because you have 1850 of capacity. It may seem like a lot but will quickly shrink when you add water, propane, dishes, bedding, clothing, and food. The trailer will be quite close to max.

Knowing the weight you are actually loaded with the truck will go a long ways to determining if you are fully loaded or over loaded. Do the numbers properly and you will know where you are.

Approximating is not a good way to go. It will give you should/could be answers.

These are brochure weights. You want to find out what the TIRE AND WHEEL LOADING label says. This will give you the net carrying capacity (when the propane and water tanks are full) regardless of the tow vehicle.

Once you know what the net carrying capacity is then start subtracting the gear....it quickly adds up.

Batteries, food, extra bedding, clothes, generator, solar controller, new wiring, inverter, drinking water, outdoor table & chairs, bike(s), tools, trailer jack, books, wood blocking, black and fresh hoses, kitchen utensils, wheel leveling blocks, rope, fire pit, BBQ, slide topper, suspension upgrades, extra fuel, firewood, pop up tent, outdoor carpet, battery charger, camp chef stove, axe/saw, extra fire extinguishers, extra propane.....

FYI...Panels alone for 1000W solar will eat up 1/5 of the carrying capacity of a 240RKS.

I was wondering if I could swap out the TT tires for a heavier load range?

Don't they have a 16" tire option?
I would definitely get that with the Heavy Duty Shackles and Bronze Bushings if available.

The Backcountry X4 package has a 11,000lb GVRW. ORV doesn't list the weight of the option.

As long as you keep the combination of loaded trailer weight and hitch weight within the tow vehicle specs the only drawback to the having a 11,000lb GVRW is the extra weight the Backcounty X4 option adds.....or the flip side....how much it reduces the carrying capacity.

You can insure a trailer for less than the manufactures GVRW but never for more.

Check out RVTRADER.COM and filter down to the the manufacturer and then the model. You'll see most of whats available. Then call the dealers or go to their websites.

I figure the best time is when they come the closest to matching your bottom line. I've never found a best time. If you are looking for hard to find models or a specific one and you find one and it may not be around long. Do your pricing and determine what you are willing to pay. If you are happy with your deal that's the important part. Sometimes u find a lower price somewhere else but often when u compare they end up very close. My thoughts.

ASAP, the longer you wait the less camping trips before they put you in a home.
