Tongue weight of 21 FQS

For anyone whom has a Timberidge 21 FQS, can you tell me what the actual tongue weight is? Need to know if it falls within reasonable parameters.

That trailer has a gross weight of 7800 pounds so your tongue weight will be 1000 pounds when towing that heavy. They are about 5800 or so empty so even with just 1000 pounds of gear and water you will need a tongue weight of 900 pounds to keep the sway away.

Are you including load distribution hitch, full propane tanks, and batteries with that number?

When you think about it a 1/2 ton has a cargo capacity of about 1,250 lbs.

The Timberidge 21 FQS is totally different from the 20 FQ. I am really trying to find a definitive tongue weight and dry weight on this trailer before I pull the trigger.

Have you thought about contacting the manufacturer?

The gross weight is listed in the brochure. That is the maximum the trailer can weigh without overloading the axles and tires. Tongue weight changes with the total weight of trailer and cargo you add so in this case your trailer is never supposed to weigh more than 7800 pounds with all your stuff and full water and propane.

Tongue weight is supposed to be between 10% and 15% of the total trailer weight so multiply 7800 pounds by 13% and that is your heaviest tongue weight.

Depending on where in the trailer you place heavy items you can change the tongue weight somewhat but you should never go below 10% or it will induce sway and be very hard to control. More tongue weight is more stability.

It should be doable for that truck but not if you plan on carrying 2 motorcycles and a full frame generator in the bed. Everything carried in the truck counts against it's cargo capacity which you will need nearly all of to carry that trailer.

My Timber Ridge is bigger than yours but the as built weight on the interior sticker is about 700 lbs more than the brochure wt. However if you believe the specs your tongue wt will be about 12% of your loaded wt. Right out of the chute you can add 100 lbs to the listed wt for LPG and batteries. Anything you put into the pass through storage will also add directly to it as well. It looks like the Fresh water tank is over or slightly ahead of the axles. The grey and black tanks will be near the back of the rig.

I would not expect the freshwater tank will affect the tongue wt all that much.
