MIni USB Charger Doctor Current Voltage Charging Detector USB Mobile Power Current and Voltmeter Ammeter Voltage Charger Tester-in Voltage Meters from Industry & Business on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

Be aware that all USB chargers are not the same.

I've done testing using the above volt/amp meter and discovered that most of the cheap chargers put out about .5 amps or less which won't charge some Apple and various notepads, Nook, etc.

The chargers that come with most units are capable of producing up to 1.5 amps charging current.

The plug into cigarette lighter chargers are only good for .5 amps.

This is totally correct. I had a cheap UBS charger that only put out .5 amps and could not keep up with the tablet when I was using it. Bought one that cost a little more and has 1.2 amp rating. Now the tablet will charge to 100% while I'm using it.

I've been very happy with these USB adapters to charge apple phones and iPads.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o02_s00

We took 12 v power from the lights in the pass through and also from the refrigerator access. We put in regular 12 volt car style outlets so that we could charge those types of devices as well.

Those look like pretty good outlets. 3 amps per outlet is the highest I've seen anywhere.

This is what I installed. It provides a 12 cigar lighter plug and 2 USB charging points.

Somewhere on this forum, I posted photos.

There are many 12 volt USB ports designed to be "installed" Also some 120 volt units that are designed to plug into your existing 120 volt outlets and provide both pass through 120 volt and 5-volt USB power.

HOWEVER installing 12 volt next to the 120 volt may be impractical..

You might do better to install the 12 volt next to the wall mounted reading lamps next to the bed.. WHY.. Well that is where you find 12 volts.
