Basement doors, hinges, rot, rust . . .

There will always be things to fix, repair, replace. We can be grateful that it isn't a boat. We don't have to haul our rigs out of the water to repair them.
I had the bin door problem a few years ago; discovered it while at a campsite. I was disappointed with the way Rexhall built the doors. But I got some new boards I had at home, cut them to size, screwed them in place, re-attached the hinge and it works like it's supposed to work.
Currently I'm looking for a replacement door handle/latch for the side by side Dometic refrigerator doors. They really are one of the poorest designs for something that is going to see multiple uses every day while camping. Replacements for this 1995 model fridge are hard to find/hard to fix. Meanwhile the magnetic strip/gasket around the edge of the doors has been holding the doors tight or maybe I'm just driving gently.
Happy camping y'all.

Called Rexhall, let's just say most of us have an idea how that turned out, back to my delema...needles to say I have no idea on how to or where to get a replacement section for the hinge. Any help or ideas would be fantastic. Heck I'll even do a complete belt rail change if need be. Only problem with that, so far, is the basement doors are almost 2" thick.
I was thinking of making a door out of foam core with fiberglass matt both sides or metal sheeting on the outside, fiberglass on the inside and using contruction wall adhesive to bond the whole thing together. Just an idea.

I think there are more options today, than twenty years ago, for fabbing up a replacement door.

Mine has metal skins. If I were making a replacement door, I'd be looking into fiberglass or composite panels, like carbon fiber sandwich, or something similar.

I'd like to know what that black covering on the back side of the door is, and if it's waterproof or not. Wondering what the design "thought" was from Rexhall initially...a completely waterproof door, or a breathable door that would let moisture escape.
