441. From Macon to I85

First time I have done this so here it goes. We are planning a trip and my wife will do anything to stay away from Atlanta. Does anyone know how 441 is from Macon to I 85 east of Atlanta. Need to know about diesel, small towns etc. Any help will be appreciated.

No experience on 441 in that area. I did look at the route on my computer GPS map software. Plenty of towns, so no problems getting fuel. Assuming you got on 441 at I-16 (Dublin), you're looking at 150 mi and 3.5 hours to I-85 & 441. Running I-16, I-75 to I-85 at 441 is 200 mi and about the same amount of time. Hope this helps.

We traverse Atlanta twice a year. We start out so we hit Atlanta on the weekend. Just last week we stopped in Macon for the night on Friday. Went through Atlanta about 9 AM Saturday, no traffic to speak of and never got under the speed limit :-)

Quite a pleasant drive, take US129 through Gray, get on US441 at Eatonton and stay on US441 to Commerce. Its mostly 4 lane road after Madison.
Two nice truck stops in Eatonton, the one at the North end of the bypass is the best. More truck stops on Madison ( Flying J ) we use it a lot. More truck stops in Commerce.
We travel it several times a year, rest area just a few miles up I 85 from Commerce.

Wizard is right. However, Milledgeville is sort of weird as you are in a very busy intersection that is light controlled (making a left turn), unlike most of the other multi-lane portion of the road. When you get to Athens, turn right onto Loop 10 and follow the signs. The rest is a cakewalk from Athens to Commerce and I-85.

Don't go through Milledgeville, stay on US129 from Gray to Eatonton. Milledgeville is way out of the way. Stay in the left lane throuh Gray, turn left just past the railroad tracks. I live in Milledgeville.
