Change route without adding a waypoint

I know there has to be a way but I cant find it. I want to change the route from I5 south to I205 south to bypass Portland and it keeps wanting to add a way marker instead of just highlighting the updated route. Every time a click on DRAG ROUTE and highlight the 205 freeway it adds a waypoint marker

Zoom into the map and right-click next to the 205 and create a custom stop. This will force the route to go that way.
