Don't show closed campgrounds

While planning a trip in the RV Trip Wizard, I encountered two parks that had been reported permanently closed (several years ago). Is there any way to exclude these campgrounds/parks in the Wizard? I didn't see a way to filter them out.

Adding a way to filter those might be a good idea.

Then RVTW would have to verify the CG really is closed.

I'm Leary of using filters when displaying CG's. Too much chance you'll filter a desirable CG out.

Question

If RVTW is going to put the effort to tag a campground with "Perm Closed" as part of the listing, there should be a filter to let the users decide if they want to see this type of information. I found 2 sites with this "Perm Closed" tag while planning a trip today.

For me, that does not compute. If a "desirable CG" is filtered out, the filtering logic is broken, the user selected the wrong filters or the database contains errors. If looking for commercial CGs why would I want to see all the COE/state/city/etc. or vice versa? Filtering out groups/types/etc. is one of the best features.

Mark, to each his own. When planning I like to stay at public CG's so I filter out all CG's that are not state and federal parks. If there are none available at the location I'm interested in then I remove all filters and review all available CG's in the area I'm interested in. This works well for me.
This way I'm not filtering out a CG that maybe suitable. My feeling is filters are not perfect but I am.

Cool

I think if you find that a CG is permanently closed, you should notify RV Trip Wizard of the status and they will remove the CG from the database. No need for a filter. This is no different than if you happen to find a campground that isn't listed...just report either and it will be taken care of.

Dr Q I agree with you but what seems to
be happening is that RVTW is not removing
them, they are only tagging them as closed.
I am quite sure most people would not even
investigate a campground any farther if it
comes up as permanently closed when you
click on the little tent.
I think RVTW has two options, don’t show
closed campgrounds or add a filter.

I agree with you....if permanently closed, it should be permanently removed from the database

I think a filter is a good idea. Some of these campgrounds might reopen at some point in the future, maybe under new ownership. I’ve seen that happen a couple of times.

So for me it makes sense to leave them in the database, but flag them as shut down.

I’m assuming the databases for campgroundreviews.com will be (or has been) merged with the RVTW database. I’d hate to see the review history deleted if a site were reopened.

I agree with keeping the history.
They can hide the closed ones until
someome puts in a request to add it
back. The easiest fix would be to add
the filter. I would like to hear what the
RVTW staff thinks about this.

The past reviews would be irrelevant if a site that had been closed was reopened with new ownership/management and/or a remodel.

I respectfully disagree with that, though I can empathize with the new owner and understand why he or she might want to start with a clean slate.

It’s true, that reviews rate a campground on the quality of management, and the condition of the facilities. Something the new owner can control. Those variables are probably the most common factors in any review.

But reviews also rate the geographical environment. For example, the road leading into the campground might be narrow and hard to navigate. A nearby highway or train track might be noisy. The neighborhood might be congested.

As a camper, These are also the things I’d want to know about, even though they are beyond the control of the owner.
