Feature request: date-pinning certain stops

First of all, I love this tool. It's the only one I've found that calculates routes for >26 stops, and it uses Google Maps as the backend.

When working with very long route plans (6-12 months, 30-50 stops), one of the things it would be very handy to be able to do is to identify specific stops and "pin" the dates for those stops. So I might have

A > B > C > D > E

and I know that I have a reservation at C on March 1 through 6. I would like the rest of the trip to "flow" around that pinned stop, adding or subtracting days if needed to fill in the remaining time.

In the real world, for our style of planning, we have fixed reservations at stops #3, #8, #17, etc., but we have tentative plans for the times in between. Right now there is no way to ensure that the pinned stops stay on the correct dates except either doing it by hand or splitting the Trip into multiple Trips in the tool.

(By the way, it would also be nice to have a Split Trip feature as well as Merge Trips feature!)

Thoughts?

This is an interesting suggestion. You can currently copy a trip and then strip out some of the stops to create segments. This is a work around for the time being.

Nebster, that is a great suggestion that would be very valuable to me. I hope they take your suggestion and run with it.

I have passed this along to the development team and it's on the 'to do" list.

Yeah, I've used this workaround, but with a 50-stop itinerary we end up with maybe 10 of these fixed-date reservations, and it becomes unwieldy pretty quickly.

Thanks for putting this in the backlog!

I use an Excel spreadsheet that lists our itinerary. I have a notes column and the ones we have reservations I just note reservations. I also have columns for a arrival and departure date. After I am thru with the sheet I covert to a pdf and both of us install on our phones place a hard copy in both the trailer and truck.

Yea! I think this would be a great improvement!

When you have to "work around" a problem, it is less efficient.

Absolutely, excellent idea, I currently put in filler stops to get dates lined up. I would also like to see a way to identify stops that I have actually made a confirmed reservation....maybe a flag that can be seen on the stop list.

There already is a feature for this I believe.

When you've added a stop to your itinerary, click the edit icon (looks like a pencil) when you've put your mouse over the stop in the trip details area.

In the new window, put some information (confirmation number for example) in the Reservation Info box. Then click on the Save button.

After that, that entry in the trip details area will have a check mark next to the number of nights for that stop (in the nights column).

Any progress or updates on when we might see the date pinning feature implemented?

This is currently being developed and tested. When it's released you should see a little news update in your account when you login.
