Has anyone used & liked an online trip planner?

I'll be setting out on my very first trip with my not yet purchased travel trailer, going from one coast to the other in the next few months!! I would like to use some automated program to help me plan my trip by route and cost. Is there such a program out there that you really like? Thanks for your time. Kristen

We have used FMCA online custom trip planner and are very pleased with the service.

You get the routes and other information in a PDF file you print, download to the IPad or smartphone and off you go.

We use Microsoft Streets and Trips and Google Earth at work for trips. Great combination for what we do.

We have used Rand McNally. It is easy to set up and is useful for planning. We don't print the maps or the mile by mile directions. We have been using a TomTom for our on the road navigator but have just received our new Rand McNally RVND 7710. We will be using it on our next move. It can't be any stupider that the TomTom.

S & T by microsoft is hard to beat and with the addition of a GPS receiver (Holux for one) that plugs into your USB port it becomes a turn by turn GPS system that downloads and helps you circumnavigate road construction and such. About $60.00 if purchased separately.

GPS Question

I saw an ad for a site or software that costs $ 37 per year but allowed a free 15 day trial. Now I am damned if I can find it again. Can anyone direct me to the site url?

I have used a Garmin Nuvi 465 designed for big trucks. It is flaky. Just today it took me off the highway onto a service road and then right back on to the highway for no reason. I had just updated the maps yesterday. It likes to recalculate often. My advice, stay away from Garmin.

Am considering buying the new Magellan Roadmate RV9165T or the Rand McNally RVND 7710. Had a Magellan GPS many years ago and loved it but they stopped producing maps for it forcing me to buy a new GPG which really annoyed me. I like to plan trips ahead of time so that is a key consideration. Anyone have any comments or suggestions? A 7" screen really appeals as I have a 39' diesel pusher.

RV Trip Wizard RV Trip Wizard - The best ever trip planner! . If you try it let us know what you think. I gave it a try and it has some nice features that I wish S&T had, but runs on their site and for me was slow. I also had problems when trying to make changes to my original itinerary. Ended up getting a refund and going with Streets and Trips.

Hi Mike,

Worked on it yesterday for a few hours and found it to be worth the price. It has some quirks but one must remember that it is not a Microsoft product so it has lilitations. It found addresses that MapQuest could not and that impressed me. I will try it for a year.

Cheers,

Jim

We subscribed to the RV Wizard site last week and I really like it.

After reading the manual, I planned out 4 different trips to see how they were routed vs. MapQuest.

RV Wizard was the winner.

MQ took us on a route that I know has a 9'2" low bridge. RV Wizard did not.

So far so good and looking forward to using RV Wizard in the future.

As you get more experience with RV Wizard I would love to see an update and see how it is doing. I'm interested, but it being a web based program has me wondering what it can do without internet. I was wondering if it can display the routed map even when not connected to Internet?
