Odd looping

Several times I get some odd routing, it's most noticable one short round trips with RV routing.

This is just a one stop loop but it doesn't go back the way it started. https://www.rvtripwizard.com/members/index.php?page=visitor&trip_id=vNfe8hzVlHwiZmCI2ob 0Wg%3D%3D

I know these roads well as I've been there for business and pleasure for many years. There aren't low bridges or other hazards and all roads are high quality. In fact it's refusing to return most of the way on I90. Sure one way is longer, but faster. Shouldn't it just use the "better" route? However defined!

How can I see 'inside' these choices? Should I override or is it the smart one? Or is this just a bug?

Which Return Route option did you choose, Mirror or Direct Route?

Direct route, but this is a one stop trip so there's no difference.

One possibility, but I don't know...

If the 'routing engine' prefers to keep you on a road you are already on. In this case I soon get on I90 so it takes that as far as it can go, and eventually get to US2. On the way back I am soon on US2 so it stays on that until forced onto I90.

Seems like far too simple an algorithm, but it fits!

It seems less efficient, but certainly the return route is more direct, I could see it choosing that.

If it's better (efficient, shorter, faster, whatever) one way then it should be the same for the other direction. Recall that this is not the only time this sort of looping has surfaced.

So WHY one each way???

Is there a document describing the routing algorithm?

Is this a BUG?
