Reno to South Lake Tahoe

Has anyone traveled on 580 from Reno to south Lake Tahoe? We will coming from Bend, OR in our 29' Artic Fox 5ver. I don't think there are issues between Bend and Reno, but I have never been on that stretch of 580. I wouldn't want to be on the west side of the lake having to go through Emerald Bay, but the Reno south to Tahoe doesn't appear to be too bad, however maps can be deceiving.

I guess 580 turns into 50 to get to Tahoe...

I live in Reno and travel to South Lake Tahoe many times each year. You will not have any issues getting to South Lake Tahoe on 580/395 & Hwy 50. You will stay on 395/580 through Reno and through Carson City. At the South end of Carson City, you will continue straight up Hwy 50 and will go around the SE end of Lake Tahoe right to South Lake Tahoe. The climb up Hwy 50 to Tahoe is a little steep, but you won’t have any problem.
If you are planning to camp at Tahoe, make reservations WELL in advance, the campgrounds fill up quickly in the summer.
Have fun !!! The Tahoe area is AMAZING !!!

Perfect! My friend already made reservations at Tahoe Valley Campground. About halfway between Bend and Tahoe I found Likely RV & Golf Resort. Nothing there (which we like) but relaxing and some golf. Has good reviews. his will break up the trip a bit. Eight hours pulling the fiver is a bit much.

Thanks again!

Glad to help !!
I have been looking at the Likely RV Park and it looks very nice. We have horse camped for years in the South Warner a wilderness which is about 15 miles further down the road from the RV Park. It’s a great area and I’m sure you will enjoy the peace and quiet !!
Safe travels!!

We live in Reno also and have been to Likely many times. It's a great park! Beautiful scenery and very peaceful. Love it at night because there are no lights and it is a great place to watch the stars. If you want action. Likely is not the place to be. If you want some peace and quiet, Likely is it!

The golf course is closed for the winter, but it's a great course when it's open!

Different trips for either action (that's what it will be when we meet out friends in Tahoe) or relaxation (Likely).

Thanks!
