Rest Areas?

Hi All,

I am new to using RVTW (still in my 30-day trial period) so forgive me if the answer to my question is obvious to a seasoned user.

I have created a trip from my home in Atlanta to Cherry Hill Park in College Park MD, with one stop in Christianburg VA along the way. The route heads up I-85 through GA, SC, and NC, then north on I-77 into VA, then north on I-81 in VA then east on I-66 to DC, then around the Beltway (495) to Cherry Hill Park.

When I pull in the "Research" tab to search for Rest Areas along the way (POI), it only shows 1 Rest Area on the route between Christianburg and Cherry Hill, when in fact, there are 4 Rest Areas (per the VA DOT Website).

Any insight on what I am doing wrong or why RVTW is returning incorrect info?

Thanks.

Chuck

PS - I sent in a question through the "Help?" tab in RVTW, but figured there might be knowledge here as well.

It may be that it is old data. A few years ago(?) VA closed all or most of their rest areas and has since reopened some/all.

The RVTW database is poplulated by member input as well as Campground Reviews' database.

If rest stops are missing, you can use the Missing Park feature to submit one. Please be sure you provide the street/route it's on as well as the city (i.e. I-70 near Buckeye Lake, OH)

IMO-By the time new information has trickled down to whatever database(s) any company is using to populate their product it could easily be several years.

Agreed. That's why it is important for users to submit missing or incorrect campgrounds and rest stops. Rest stops are difficult in that they seem to come and go constantly. I have found RVTW folks to be very responsive to corrections to their campground listings.

Hello,

I got a response from RVTW Support. They stated "I will see if we can get the rest stop database updated." I guess I was doing the right thing, but getting insufficient data returned.

It sounds from the responses I got here on the forum that the consensus is that we should populate the database for RVTW. Not sure I agree. If I can't trust that the info returned by RVTW is correct, then I have to double check everything that RVTW tells me, and I might as well keep on doing my trip planning the old way, looking at several sources and consolidating the info into a homemade trip plan.

I am still inside the 30-day trial period. I will decide soon whether to keep on using it or not.

Regards.

Chuck

PS - What is an "RVTW Ambassador?" How does that work?

When you find the perfect app that has ll the information please let us all know. We are all searching for that app.

RVTW is not perfect, it is the closest I have found to meeting my needs. Having it liink direct with campgroundsreview.com is fantastic.

We try not to plan in too much detail such as rest areas, many are closed(temporarily or permantently). So even if the database gets updated it is still dicey.

An Ambassador is a person who answers your questions as best they can and also notes trends. If I see several people having a similar problem I report the issue to RVTW. We are kind of your first line of defense.
