Do you have to have online access to use Trip Wizard, or can it also be downloaded and used offline? Thanks in advance.

fmaclean,
You can email itinerary or save as a excel file. It a fabulous planning software. I love the planning part and there is nothing better.
While traveling, I find it easy enough to make changes or updates, any new research at night or during day by connecting online using mobile hotspot.

fmaclean,

If you'd like to see more details about RVTW, here's a direct link to my walkthrough video:

Emailing the itinerary to a family member or friends should be a "must do", for safety reasons. We boated for years and traveled the East coast, this is much like a "float plan" if you are on a boating trip.

Trip planning

Hi,
Another good trip planning site is RVParky. You can set up a trip with different filters far many types of campgrounds, rest stops, fuel stops, POI's etc.

RV Trip Wizard vs Good Sam Trip Planner?

Great tool that helps you plan any trip for those of use who love planning ahead as many trips as you like.

With the demise (interruption) of the Good Sam tool, is RV Trip Wizard the only game in town? The Trip Planner goes away mid-April with no relaunch date mentioned. Is there any reason to stay with GS after this?

I have a Kindle and a PC, no "smart"phone.

Well, I wouldn't stick with the Good Sam Planner anyway because it has far fewer features than RVTW. However, I believe that the best alternative would either be RV Parky (free) or Roadtrippers.com.

Truth be told, GS was third party supported and they got caught with their pants down... the contract renewal was done to them like they do to us, the price tripled and GS decided to just drop it...

Thank you, Mike.

Is there any reason to renew membership with Good Sam? It seems to be all sales pitch and few, if any, useful benefits.

I have been using the RVTW pretty much since it came out, and have always liked it better than the GS. I still have the old RV Trip Planner 2013 which I often use for initial lay out of my longer trips and then manually transfer to RVTW.

I only keep my GS membership because of the Pilot/Flying J card. The discount and convenience off sets some of the GS nuisance, and I always send any postpaid envelopes back to GS either empty or with the card I don't want in the envelope. I suspect if everyone did that they might cut down on all their JUNK mail.

If you are starting over with a new system, consider Garmin BaseCamp with a Garmin 770 RV GPS. Works great. It is not the same as many others. It is complex to learn, but has extensive planning features. BaseCamp is free, but the streets map is not. It is intended to use the Garmin GPS you also would have.

I recommend you do not consider Microsoft Streets. Streets is a bare bones GPS street map.
