Transfer RVTW Routes to Garmin
I have invested many hours trying to transfer routes built in RVTW to my Garmin Drive Smart 61 to no avail. There is an in-depth discussion on this subject in the RV Systems & Technology Section under "Got New Garmin RV 785 GPS". OP tried to do the transfer and like me he also failed. I call your attention to post #32 by "Capt Gizmo" where he makes a compelling case that this transfer process will never work. If it doesn't work then the "send to GPS" function should be removed and it will save lots of people lots of frustration.
I still prefer RVTW for planning and use the "drag route" function to customize my routes. Getting those new routes into my Garmin for turn-by-turn is still a tedious process. Lately, I have let Garmin build the route, but then use the "route shaping" function to follow the RVTW customized route. Route shaping basically creates a waypoint that triggers a recalculation that redirects the route through that waypoint. Coincidentally, the "drag route" function of TW also creates a waypoint for the reroute. If there is a way to get a lat/long off the TW waypoints and give them a name? If so, I could enter these waypoints as stops in the Garmin. Then I could more easily build my routes in advance by showing those waypoints as stops. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Greg

Garmin and Trip Wizard
I have spent many hours trying to transfer my trip wizard routes to my Garmin through various configurations of Basecamp, Garmin Express, importing, exporting. I have taken advice from Garmin and trip wizard. A lot of "just do this, just do that". It never worked. Sometimes you get bits and pieces but certainly nowhere near a feasible route to follow. Very frustrating after many hours of detailed planning with trip wizard to have to enter it manually from a spread sheet into my Garmin.

GPX files are used to transfer GPS info from one program to another. GPX files can be track, route or waypoint GPX files. Transferring a RVTW GPX file to your Garmin will not work because RVTW creates "tracks" GPX file. Garmin RV GPSs are looking for "route" GPX files and will not work with a track GPX file. RVTW is aware of this issue, but has not made it a priority to fix. I believe it is a simple programming fix of just changing the file creation syntax to create a "route" GPX.
There is a very painful way to convert the RVTW from a track GPX to a route GPX by using Garmin's Basecamp program. RVTW attempts to explain that process on its website. IMHO that is not a solution, but an invitation to a migraine headache.
If enough people complain, they will fix it.

Thanks for the accurate explanation off this issue UTE.
I sent a change request to the developers website so I hope the will act on it. I like RVTW for planning, but we still need a much simpler way to convert from plan to turn-by-turn. That should be a top priority. Suggest other users do the same thing.
You can send info directly to developer right from the RVTW application. Go to "help" in bottom left itinerary screen and then select "contact". It will give you a form-fill screen to describe issue and request a change. Greg

RVTW Instructions
Not sure how new the instructions, for converting Tracks to Routes, in RVTW are. But I followed the l ink to the instructions, under send to GPS. It's definitely convoluted, but it works. It helps to relabel the track, or just the way points, so that the information is more understandable.
Not sure if I have this 100%.
1. The GPX file contains tracks from RVTW.
2. In Garmin Basecamp you need to convert those tracks to Routes.
3. This is where the process can get a bit confusing as the Waypoints, for a specific Track, and the name of the route may all have the same name.
4. You need to relabel the Way Points to understandable, Start and End points.
5. Modify the Route by adding those relabeled Start and End points and deleting the confusingly labeled ones.
6. I changed the names of the Route also.
7. Then ONLY transfer those ROUTES to the Garmin.
Hope this helps. If I described anything incorrectly, ... Please let us all know. Hopefully, this can become a less frustrating process, as time goes on.

Wouldn't it be nice if RVTW would just fix the GPX type and you would not be required to do anything other than copy the GPX into your GPS!
I am guessing that they want you to use RVTW end to end.. (plan, research and actual navigation). They don't want to make it easy for your to leave their platform and move to Garmin for the actual navigation part.
People will want to stay in their platform when they have a better product.

Good job in making this process actually work. I had serious doubts that it was even feasible.
It still sounds convoluted and time consuming, so I'm inclined to plod along with planning in RVTW and manually adjusting routes in Garmin through route shaping function. I'm hoping the RVTW developers will not keep us in purgatory too long. They need to give us a direct transfer to Garmin capability or get the Android version of RV Life to us soon. RV navigation in its current state is not satisfactory. Greg

It seems that the unfortunate part is the struggle with RVTW. Radius for distance only works on a straight road. It's too bad there is no category for BaseCamp and Garmin. But then someone much wiser than I makes those decisions.

I finally got the hang of moving a Trip from RV Trip Wizzard to Garmin!
1. Make a "GPX" download to a computer file.
2. Make a folder for the trip (Trip List) in Garmin Base Camp
3. Import the .gpx file into the base camp file
4. Observe that there are "foot tracks".
5. Click on First and hold down shift and click on Last
6. Right click and select "Join tracks" (you can then delete all the individual ones if you like)
7. Once the tracks are combined, right click on that and select "create route form selected tracks.
8 This makes a route.
9. Select that route and left click on "Device" at top
8. Make sure your device is connected then select "Sent to Device....Send selected track.
Full route will be sent to the Garmin. Works on my 780 & 785
Note: you can only do about 20 "tracks" at s time. So you may have to Click on about twenty "footprints" and join, then join the next 20. Then convert each to a route and them move the route to the Garmin.
On a trip from NC to WI, to Badlands, to Cody WY and return I have to do NC to Cody and Cody to NC.

Preferred method avoids this issue
After watching a number of experienced rv-ers on YouTube, I am convinced that they have the better idea for folks with an RV GPS: let the GPS do the routing.
Several of these folks gave up on the extensive RVTW-to-GPS transfer hassle because the universe does not like overplanning. After messed up park reservations, mechanical issues, and just plain druthers made extensive preplanning moot, the headaches of getting RVTW into a GPS was the last straw.
While I still plan a trip in RVTW, I load the gps manually the night before departure. Our Garmin allows for adding any number of stops, so I can still customize to our hearts’ content. On a multi-day trip, that nightly ritual gives me an opportunity to plant the next day’s plan firmly in the bean so I can concentrate on staying between the lines.
RVTW is great for planning, but once on the road we have learned not to be so inflexible as to need to plug in the exact route we planned three weeks ago.
