Another vote for Delorme Street Atlas. Can run it live or just do route planning when parked with no connections. It takes some getting used to but is fine once you get into it. As they are a map company it is not likely they will drop the product.

I also use Google when available to get the live updates on road construction and other issues. Most of that is short term by road standards but long term enough to check a couple days out. ;-)

Does Delorme show what's within an area like S&T? For example: if I want to know what campgrounds, gas stations, stores, attractions etc are within 5 miles of wherever I select ?

From Delorme...

Situation:
You’d like to know which points of interest (POIs) – attractions, restaurants, businesses, retail stores, lodgings, and more – are within easy reach of a certain location. This is especially useful when you’re vacationing in an unfamiliar area.
Solution:
Simply right-click on the map in any location, and select these prompts: Find Travel POIs > distance from location (e.g., Within 5 mi). A dialog box will appear that lets you select the POI categories you want; the software will then produce a list of search results and place them on the map. Click on any one you want from the list and the others will disappear from the map. If you want to show more than one, control + click on as many as you want in the results list. For more in-depth information on any geo-located POI, just right click on its map icon.

Can a pre-planned out route created on Delorme Street Atlas software be downloaded to the Garmin RV760 GPS?

I don't know if data from the Delorme software can be downloaded to a Garmin RV760 or not but I have to wonder why you would want to.

Garmin also provides a free trip planning program called Basecamp. It is designed to be used off-line and complete trip plans or favorite locations can be downloaded to a Garmin RV760 or any other Garmin GPS.

One of the Streets and Trips features I like was the ability to include start and stop times as well as other time factors, allowing me to more accurately gauge arrival times etc. I discussed this at length with one of the Basecamp engineers and about two years later those same features appeared in Basecamp.

Basecamp is the closest, feature wise, that I've seen to S&T.

CoPilot Live 8 Laptop maps are 2011. I have been in contact with tech support and they have no idea when they will be updated. I'm in the process of getting a refund.

I believe the truck version does have more recent maps, but I don't know the dates.

You can do this with Street Atlas..

I loaded Basecamp onto my PC three different times. And each time I became SO frustrated with the damn thing I removed.

Trust me it takes a Rocket Scientist to learn how to use that program.

What was Garmin thinking!

BobGed-

I used copilot on my laptop about 10 years ago for a few years and really liked the product. Then the outdated maps messed me up a few times so I bounced from S&T and Delorme on the laptop but for the last 2 years have been using the RM app for my ipad and am happy with it.

Yes that Garmin Basecamp does take a bit of concentration...I just started playing with it, but I think it has a lot of features. Once you learn the ones that are most pertinent to you, I think it will be a great program. Then, just connect your Garmin, send it to your unit, and off you go!!
