We are leaving for Alaska in the latter part of June from Palm Coast, FL and heading initially to IL and CO to visit some of our family, then North up through WY and MT, crossing into Canada at the Sweet Grass/Cuitts border crossing, then to Calgary and west to go up the Icefield Parkway then up to Grand Prairie and Dawson Creek to get onto the Alaska Highway to AK. We will be pulling a 31' overall TT. On the way back we will come down the Cassiar Highway, jump over to Hyder, then work our way down to the border crossing in northern ID and head south down through ID, UT and the east back to FL.

Hi,
I would go north and take route 2 across to Glacier Natl Park then up to Calgary, Icefield Pkwy, etc. I suggest you get a copy of Milepost Magazine as they have all the info you will need.
We went to Alaska 7 years ago and really enjoyed the trip and stopped wherever we wanted. While in Homer make sure you take a charter boat and go halibut fishing.
Enjoy your trip.

Great trip. Go to Twin Falls MT and follow the RVs. Enjoy.

We just did the trip and went through Minot ND, on through Calgary then through Banff/Jasper. From Jasper we went to Prince George and then up the Alaska Highway. I highly recommend putting Bannf/Jasper on your itinerary. This year is a big anniversary year for Canada's parks and the passes are free and the parks are busy. We didn't have any campground reservations and found space each night we were there (Tuesday-Thursday). As the summer progresses, the need for reservations will increase. Going through Montana will allow you to add Glacier Park to your trip.
I've done both the Alaska Highway and the Cassier Highway twice each over the past four years. You get to the Cassier by going West out of Prince George. You get to the Alaska Highway by going North out of Prince George. They are both beautiful routes and you can't go wrong. We like seeing the Wood Bison on the Alaska Highway route. Last week we saw a large herd with many babies. Many bears with babies this time of years as well.
What ever you do, don't rush through Canada to get to Alaska! That part of the trip is amazing.
If you have time, I really like the side trip to Skagway.

Don't miss Skagway - park at Pullen Creek RV Park and ask for the cement side overlooking the marina - Great View - you can watch the cruise ships come and go - town after cruise people leave at night becomes one great party of locals. Walk everywhere.
