Question Another Newbie Question

I have a 2006 Ford F-250 Diesel Super Duty, 2-wheel drive, double cab, 6'10" bed, GVW 9800 lbs, front GAWR 4850 lbs, rear GAWR 6100 lbs, combined occupancy weight 2711, tires LT 275/65 R18, Load Range E.

I want to put a Capri Rodeo Deluxe (1150 dry weight per Capri). My truck has a short bed, 6'10". The Capri truck camper is 8'6" long which means that the tail gate will be down. Can I put a 24" extension on my stock hitch and pull my aluminum horse trailer (5000 lbs completely loaded), approximately 500 lbs tongue weight? This truck camper has a 30 gal. fresh water tank and no black or gray water tanks. Will this work? Is it legal?

Where is the center of gravity on the camper? If it is behind the center ofthe rear axle of PU, you will have problems without the trailer. With the trailer it will be worse. The trailer by itself won't be a problem and if the camper has it's load in the right place the whole thing should be OK.

Don, I'd suggest the first thing you need to do is to weigh your truck and see just where you are weight wise. As for laws that control what you can haul or pull weight wise, they generally only apply to commercial vehicles. From there just work out the numbers.

Lots of folks run overloaded and claim that they do OK. But the question is how will the rig handle in an emergency situation when overloaded vs. within capacity.
