Best camper

I've been looking at truck campers for my grandson. His truck is a 2017 Dodge Express crew cab with the 3.6 engine and 3.55 gears. According to Dodge the carry capacity is 1680lbs.

I want to find him the best possible option for him, his wife and two dogs. The dogs could stay with us, if it's a problem.

The problem I've encountered is that some campers like the Northern Lite's cost as much as a class c.

Opinions please

That's one of the big drawbacks to truck campers. They are the most expensive RV on a dollars/square foot basis.
I suspect he simply has the wrong truck for a TC. I take it that's a 1500. By the time you get even a small camper on there, add some water, propane, food, etc. and then add in the people and dogs he will likely be over the payload rating.

Thanks, everyone else on the "other" site said for him to buy a larger truck. But buying another truck is not an option. The Dodge is his daily driver and I don't want him to add to his debt. I have offered him my old Shamrock boat to use as a camper. Has all the bells n whistles of a land unit, except a better bedroom and toilet. And, it's paid for!

With that truck, he would be better off with a travel trailer under 7000 lbs GVWR.
