Blue liquid coming from electrical connection to truck

Hello!

Our neighbor just came over to tell me that the passenger break light was lit on our 2014 camplite truck camper. I decided I would disconnect the electrical from the truck so the battery wasn’t being drained and leave it for my husband to check out when he got home.

I was surprised to have blue liquid coming down on me when I disconnected the electric hookup! See photos.... does anyone know what this is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! https://drive.google.com/open?id=14J...HO5HWpzk8SKkCY

The blue is corrosion from the contacts, the liquid is water that caused the corrosion

Thanks. Is this normal or should we get a new cord?

Try cleaning both the plug and receptical then get it out of where water can get to it. That might or might not work depending on how bad the corrosion is. Too much and it ruins the contacts.

Get a new cord. Replace the plug in on the camper. RV's burn down do to electrical problems.

If it hasn't ruined the contacts then cleaning thoroughly will be just as good as new.

Time to cut that off and install a new one. Then make sure you either cut a tiny hole to let water out when installed or if it is stored in the weather be sure to wrap in in a bag to keep water out.

What you have there is a basic high school Chemistry experiment in electrolysis. Water, a bit of DC current and various metals turn into something rather unlike what they were very quickly. It's even worse if the water is salty.

You can probably get by for a short time by cleaning it but considering it looks like the umbilical cord for the tail lights might be best to replace both ends (outlet and plug) as soon as practical. Good practice to keep the rear lights working when on the move.
