I want to get a slide in camper for my truck. What do I need to know before starting my search?

Well start with weighing the truck, then subtact that from what the door sticker says the max your truck can weight (GVWR) That is how much weight you are allowed by the factory. Tell us more about your truck, long/short bed, 3/4 or 1 ton, or 1/2 even. Weight is going to be the biggest issue. A LOT of campers should be on a 1 ton and some on even bigger trucks. There are brands out there to fit just about any thing you want to put it on. How you are going use the camper makes a lot of differance on what you want, are you going to tow as well? Long trips short trips, hunting off road. How many people are going to be in it all comes in to play. Where you live and where you camp can make a differance in what you want. Bondock or resort? Desert or northen mountians? Did I mention weight it going to be the biggest issue? Feel free to ask specific questions we can give better answers.

If your truck in new, you should have been provided with a piece of paper that indicates the center of gravity information plus maximum cargo (camper) weight. Most camper manufactures will not give you the actual weight of the camper. My 11 1/2' Lance was actually 800 lbs heavier than the information provided with the camper. Even though the truck looks like it can handle the weight, I found the brakes were barely able to stop the loaded truck.

Good luck
