Does Michigan require a title on a truck camper?

I planning to sell my truck camper in the future in Michigan because it's made for cold conditions. Wondering if Michigan requires a title for the truck camper and if so how can I get one? The person I'm buying it from doesn't have one because Tennessee doesn't require one.

Thanks.

Are you talking the shell that slides into a pickup, or the entire vehicle (Truck and shell)

The Truck must be titled.

I do not think the shell is titled. It is cargo after all, not a vehicle. BUT.. Will do a bit of resarch.

What do you know I was wrong

Section 257.216...
(m) A certificate of registration is not required for a pickup camper, but a certificate of title is required.

Oh, what exactly is a "Pickup camper"?

257.40a “Pickup camper” defined.
Sec. 40a. “Pickup camper” means a nonself-propelled recreational vehicle, without wheels for road use,
that is designed to rest all of its weight upon, and be attached to, a motor vehicle, and is primarily intended for
use as temporary living quarters in connection with recreational, camping, or travel purposes. A pickup
camper does not include truck covers or caps consisting of walls and a roof but that do not have floors and
facilities for using the camper as a dwelling.
History: Add. 1990, Act 98, Eff. Jan. 1, 1991.

In short, what you are calling a truck camper.

You can, and I did, download a PDF copy of the Michigan Vehicle code.. I'm not sure if it is on the SOS site or the MSP site

SOS - Michigan Secretary of State or MSP - Michigan State Police

I find it handy to have on my hard drive from time to time.. However it is very odd for it to be the exact answer to a forum question

I searched the PDF for the word CAMPER, and the first hit was the definition above. I switched to "PICKUP CAMPER" for the next search and the title requirement was about 3 hits down.

Wonder how hard would be to get a title for this camper? Owner told he would write out a bill of sale which now I wonder if this would work?

Thanks for the help.
