Hey all. I need to install a marine Sirius satellite antenna on the roof of my camper, and wanted to see if anyone had experience drilling a hole in the roof to run a wire through.

I know I could run the wire through the refrigerator vent to avoid drilling the roof, and that's still an option for me. However, I like the idea of having the antenna wire coming into the same area as the radio antenna, and that's why I'm looking into drilling.

That said, is there some sort of grommet I could use on the roof? (With sealant, of course) Or will drilling a hole, putting the wire through, then sealing it be sufficient? I've got a tube of parbond waiting for this project

Thanks!
Justin

Look where the radio antenna comes through. Loosen the antenna and check for wiring harness and stuff like that. Drill the hole for the antenna. This is after you have gone to Home Depot and gotten the proper sealant and grommets.

Chet, thanks for the response.

I've already removed the top and side piece of wood from the cabinet directly below the antenna and can see the wires for both the antenna and the solar panel plug. There is also a hole that is drilled in the wood below the roof, possibly for the optional satellite dish. I intend on drilling through this area to run the wire.

My only concern now is finding a grommet for the roof. I guess the first step would be to check Home Depot and Lowes. Does anyone know the thickness I'll need for the grommet?

Thanks,
Justin
