Ford F350 DRW with a Lance 990 hits roof on pot holes.

Hi all I sold my old my old class C motorhome and bought an Older (2003) F350 diesel DRW with a Lance 990. I am having a problem when I hit a hard bump the overhang slaps the top of the truck cab. There is very little clearance when parked so I can see why it hits the top. any suggested solutions?

Had this same problem years ago with a Lance on an '03 F350 also. The cabs grew but the campers didn't for a couple of years. We simply put a 1" sheet of marine grade plywood in the bed before loading the camper. I remember that we placed a rubber bed mat on top of the plywood.

We space our NorthStar with a 2x2 addition (riser) screwed to the perimeter of the camper. Without it we would be riding our market lights. :(

Built this platform form my dodge. 2 x 4 on flat, 3/8 plywood, topped with 5/8 rubber stall mat. Gives me clearance I needed.

There was no way my 1996 Bigfoot Camper would fit on my 2004 Dodge dually without a spacer in the bed. Because I do take this outfit off highway I wanted to make sure I had plenty of clearance between the cab and the cabover so I built a 3-1/2" platform that fits snugly in the bed of the truck. The platform has teflon side plates so that when I am lowering the camper into the bed the side plates guide it into the exact center. Makes loading a lot easier and has worked well for me in all situations for several years now. The only negative is that the platform is heavy so getting it out of the bed when I want to use the truck for something other than the camper takes a bit of doing.

Had the same issue with my 01 F350 drw. I welded up some 2x2" square tube that extends past the camper by 3'. Screwed this to the bottom of the camper with self tappers. Covered the extension in deck boards and we now use it as our outdoor counter for cooking all the way to happy hour provisions

Ford have a higher cab height compared to other brands. We own an 2002 F-350 crew cab. We started with a 2001 Lance 1010. One sheet of plywood on a rubber bed mat with another bed mat on top did the trick. When I traded the Lance for a 2016 Travellite we had to add another sheet of 3/4 plywood and another mat to gain the clearance it needed. If you leave out the mat the camper will slide around on the plywood.

Thank you to all who have replied with Ideas. I am going to try a rubber mat/plywood/ rubber mat sandwich approach and see how that works. If I still get an occasional slap I am going to add a 1x4 on the flat 16" on center to add a little more height if needed. I will let you know how that works.

So, the first road trip is now complete. I had spry in bed liner completed I added a 3/4"4x8 sheet of plywood. Over the plywood I added a DeeZee bed mat which added an additional 3/8". the roof slap was totally gone. The first trip, 600 miles, was great fun!

Just a thick rubber mat was enough for mine. It was in two pieces, mostly because it would have been too heavy and unwieldy in a single piece. The mat also kept the camper from moving around in the truck bed. I would try to provide continuous support under the camper floor however it is done.
