Your post made me look into this. There are a few hitches that mount up front with verifying prices. Pretty simple to mount up. Looks like just remove the tow hooks, put hitch in place behind the hooks, install the new bolts and you’re go to go! I’m thinking of doing the same thing with my RAM 3500.

Yeah they aren’t a lot but I can fabricate just about anything but like to see ideas, I may buy the hitch $160-200 then add whatever I think would make it better, I can Carry a stand up jet ski if I’m the only one going to ride if I need to tow a trailer with other stuff. Hope people show some pictures

I have one on my F150 pickup, works great for moving airplanes in and out of hangar.

Front hitch

If you install one be sure that the insert cannot be pushed in too far and hit the radiator

I have one on a 2011 f150 for a bike rack but could use it for a cargo rack also. I bought it from Etrailer

I added a hitch that bolts to the back bumper of a 5th wheel to each of the frame rails and then built my own bike and motorcycle racks. With two mounting points you don't have to worry about the side to side motion like I did with the single hitch. Mine was on a 2016 F250 so not sure how it would work on your truck. I had to use longer bolts and do a little grinding on the top plates to clear a couple of brackets but it wasn't too bad.

Downside is it eliminates using any standard rack that attaches to the normal single hitch but if you are wanting to fab it up anyway it will be way more secure with the double hitches.

I'm not that good with pics, but I built a couple for carrying Honda CT 90 bikes. the first was a front mounted carrier that mounted on each side of the frame using existing holes in the frame. I used 1/4" (?) flat plate and welded receiver material to it. The carrier was built from the material that plugs into it, whatever that is called.

The second was no more than a piece of receiver material welded to the center of the existing commercial hitch I had placed on the front of our Tracker for towing it. I used it and the tow bar attach points to support an extension that I built that would carry a CT 90 and have tow bar attachments on the front. I also built a carrier for the rear and had "his n hers" bike carriers.

I usually look at pictures of commercially available products, if there are any. Then with that in mind, I may draw a rough sketch or two, take some measurements, rummage through the scrap pile or make as trip to a metal supply facility, and go to work.

Best of luck.

Steve
