Hi, I've just recently purchased my first slide-in. It's a 1986 StarCraft RoadStar, and weighs 922lbs (it's a over-cab pop-up). It's built for a 8' box, however my truck is a 2500HD shortbed. I have a coupla questions...

edit: Of course it overhangs, but I left the tailgate on, is this ok?

1)It came with bed pocket tiedowns, which use's chains and turn buckles. Will these be sufficent? And if not what do I need, and how do they attach?

2)It only has 3 "jacks" (not sure of the correct term), 1 on the passenger side, and 2 on the driverside. They are the low cost mechanical type, I'd like to buy a 4th, and set it up with one on each corner. Any advice or comments?

Thanks in advance...
Jim

I think as long as the floor is flat with the bed of your truck you will be fine leaving gate down. I wouldn't trust the pocket tie downs myself and they are not leagal in some states. There are some states that you have to have at least one set of tie downs frame mounted. There are many diff. frame mounts I like ones you can take off or slide in when camper is off of the truck. Three jacks should be fine with a small unit I had that set up on a hard side and they worked fine. good luck and enjoy your rig. Scotty.

juggler,

look into the Torq Lift frame mounted tie downs. They are solid and most likely more solid than you really need. But, better to be on the safe side.

I would never leave the camper off the truck and on the jacks. Lower it to blocks or timbers for storage.
