I see that you will start the caravan in La Pine, OR; I spent spent a lot of time in that area (and the China Hat area) in the early 50s as a youngster deer hunting with my grand-dad. Great country.
Sure wish we could be with you. We will be camping in the Redmond area in April.
Have a great trip. IVER D
Paul and caravan, I just added the following to my original post:
There are two real nice excursions you could make from La Pine:
1) Fort Rock: http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_40.php
It is a fascinating geologic structure, Fort Rock is an old beat down volcano when part of Oregon was the ocean, about 40 miles from La Pine; we last visited Ft Rock around 1960...hanging in our kitchen is a 2x4 poster we made several years ago from a slide we took in ~1960.
2) Ice caves, about 50 miles from La Pine; around the caves is the Oregon desert. You enter the caves, walk several hundred yards and then run into a wall of solid ice, which I think must be left over from the last ice age. Again, a fascinating area all around La Pine. http://www.obsidianlab.com/research/...h_lavatop.html
. The nearby obsidian (glass rock) is also interesting to see.
