I am getting closer to my first trip do most truck campers spend nights In parking lots or camp grounds or a combination of the 2?

When you say "truck camper", I assume you mean a pick-up with a camper on back.

I have seen pick-up campers stay at both camp sites and parking lots. I was at an ACE campground last week and two truck campers spend the night in one camp site. I assume that they only paid for one site. I paid $20 for my RV, they could have split the cost and only paid $10 each for the night.

On the other hand, I have seen truck campers spend the night at truck stops and rest areas or Wal-Mart's or Flying J/Pilot stations, etc.

With a smaller camper, you may even find friendly folks that would let you stay in their drive way or in a field by the house, etc.

Have fun and have a lot of good time camping.

Don't forget Walmart for over night during transit, as long as you don't set up to camp its free. Other RV'ers are usually parked there also.
Usually you go in and ask where over night parking is allowed, as a Curtsey.
Google states where Walmart allows over night RV parking you will have a page of information to choose from.

I never stay in a CG when I am on the move. There is no reason to when you have everything you need in the bed of your truck. I bought a self contained TC so I could stay where I wanted when I wanted if lawful. Got to love the freedom!

It depends on where you are headed to.

Another idea: spend a night or two in the camper at your house, to familiarize yourself with the systems and what not.
