Quiteing a generator

New Lance 995 replacing a 2000 Lance 1010. No generator with the old 1010 worked great with the Honda 2000 generator. Had air in the 1010 never used it much and only when we were hooked up to power. Wife wanted generator in house this time so don't ask why a generator this time. I am always reminded a happy wife is a happy life. Has anyone quieted one of these down short of a sound deadening box around it. She likes it so I am stuck making it quitter. any help

The best way to make a generator quieter is to put it in a box. The box would of course need a fan to keep everything cool. You could also put the generator in front of your tow vehicle, using the vehicle to block the noise. (Not popular in campgrounds) Another suggestion is to buy a Honda generator, they seem to be the quietest of the portables.

It sounds like he's trying to quiet down a built-in generator.

There might be a little room around the generator to install some sound insulating mat like what's used to quiet, but it would have to be thin. Look into what people have done to quiet the dog house on a gas-powered class A.

Another possibility is extending the exhaust above the camper.

Nothing will work as well as a portable generator positioned well away from the camper.

I think the Onan in our Caribou is pretty quiet. Probably as quiet as a friends Honda.

Does your gen have a muffler?
