Stepping Stool

We are taking my hunting camper over to Victoria for the weekend. Since BC Ferries charge for over length but not over height it's the TC instead of the TT. The scissor stairs I got with the TC are one step too short, I don't drink enough for this didn't cause me any trouble, but the DW quickly found the slope awkward. We're leaving tomorrow so I built the step this afternoon.

The step is 22" wide x 18"long and 7" high. I made them that size so they will box the stairs for travelling. To keep them in place I dadoed a 1 1/8" slot for the 1" bottom bar, 3/8" deep, 22" long. Centered 12 1/2" from the front edge . I made them out of 3/4" plywood. I arched the sides leaving 2" at the corners. That will help with uneven ground. I got to remember to put a shovel in the basement.

A thank you to the guy who posted those interlocking 2x6 ramps. I made a six piece set of those as well.

Can someone tell me where this information is? I tried a search for "interlocking ramps" and got so many hits it would take a long time to find it that way. I will need something like that for the MH. I made some for the TC, but they weren't interlocking. Interlocking sounds better.

We took our TC from Prince Rupert, BC to Skagway, AK several years ago on the AK ferry with four stops of one day and two nights along the way. They charged the same way. It was a great trip. I hope yours is too.

best of luck.

Steve

He used two 3"x 3/8" carriage bolts for the interlocking. A picture is worth a thousand words, with my computer skills it's going to be a 1000 words. I cut the 2x6 24", 20", and 16". The angle was 1 1/2"x 4", I was able to cut it with my bandsaw. . 12" was the minimum needed under the tire. In the 24" I drilled four 7/16" holes, at 2" and 4" from the end, one inch in. On the 20" it was two 3/8" hole at 4" and two 7/16" at 2". The 16" got just two 3/8" at 2" in from the end. I had to drill a countersink for the carriage bolts heads on the bottom of the 16" four inch from the end.

Thanks Ray, I'll give that a shot. I had two sets of two 2X6s each that would stack, but sometimes the top piece would slip off the lower one. Building them this way would prevent that.

Thanks again.
