What year/s did the tailgate width change on the domestic pick ups?

I am going back to a pick up camper after many years of trailering. I am looking at a used camper, but need to know when the "big three" changed the width of the tailgate opening (year or years). I believe it was in the mid 90's, but need to be sure since I am looking at several units from this era. I have a 2011 Ram 3500. I also realized that there was a change to the height of the rail, but as long as the camper was manufactured for the new truck size I should be fine.

Bed Width

I would think the only width that mattered would be the distance between the wheel well humps in the bed. I bet that dimension hasn't changed.

Have fun.

If you're still wondering, Chevy and GMC tailgates narrowed in mid year '07 with the new body style. I had to load my '03 Fleetwood camper off center in my '07.5 truck to make it fit.
I don't know about the other brands.

GM changed to the narrower gate in 1988 Dodge in 1994 and Ford in 1999.

The 94 Dodge is the only one I am aware of that had a tail gate opening too narrow for most campers. I believe it was corrected in 95.
