A hunting story
Many years ago I was a hunter, yes that’s right a hunter, for you Bambi lovers that means I had full intentions to do grievous harm to Bambi’s Mom or Dad with my Boom stick!
Well anyway back to the story.
I was stationed in the great State of Washington., where early Buck season opened mid September.
I was using my 12 ga. Boom stick with what else, buck shot in it.
Anyway I had been in the low country all day and saw nothing but other hunters so I decided that I would head for the high country the next day.
The area I choose was called Jack Mountain, it happened to also be the last strong hold of a species of bear call Grizzly!
After working the biggest part of the day climbing the mountain I arrived at the summit where I found the entire top covered with Blue Berry bushes full of ripe fruit. In the middle of this flat top mountain of about 10 acres was a single pine tree that had been twisted by the elements .
I started walking toward the tree when I found the first disturbing piece of information here. A dead buck deer, almost all bones that were broken up pretty bad, since I was on top of the mountain I knew right away that he had not fell there from some towering cliff.
Being a little more nervous now (about like a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs) I started paying a lot more attention to my surrounding.
The next piece of disturbing evidence that I was not alone on this mountain top was a pile of dung that was full of fur, stems and blue in color from the berries. Did I mention that the dung was still steaming?
Now anyone with any sense would have been headed down hill at a rapid clip, but I was young and dumb. (you know the type 10 foot tall made of cast iron)
Anyway I was about 50 yards from the tree when I heard a noise behind me, turning I spotted this rather large bear standing on his hind leg’s sniffing the air. He spotted me dropped down on all four and started after me at a very rapid pace.
Now remember I said I had a 12 ga. Boom stick which I figured would just make him madder if I shot at him.
I had heard that Grizzly couldn’t climb trees and I knew I could climb really well. So I ran for the tree.
Now I am hearing bushes breaking behind me and I am making a bee line for that tree. I swear I could feel his breath on my heels as we ran across that field.
As I get closer to that tree I realize that the closest limb to the ground is about 12 feet up! With sinking heart I think well the only thing I can do is jump for that limb.
So I jumped for it and missed the first limb!
But I caught it on the way down!!..
