now were those visitors from LA or just Alabama....?

LA would be Lower Alabama......which is an actual place to be from

In the North a fairy tale starts out "Once upon a time" in the south it starts out "Ya'll ain't gonna believe this".

I think they might be from Gulf Shores or something that sounds like "Guff Shows" So LA might be right.

Back in college in Richmond, VA, I double-dated with friends and my date was a visitor from PA. She listened to us talk for a while before observing "You-uns all got accents!"

Down here in northern Florida we refer to the entire northwest part of the state as "Lower Alabama". It's a totally different culture from central and south Florida.
Central Florida is "Mouseland" and South Florida is "Cuba Del Norte".

I have a friend who is very obviously southern. He likes to tell people he's from "UCLA". That's "Upper Corner Lower Alabama".

45 years ago in Texas I was fueling up at a service station, asked the attendant for oil. The attendant pointed towards the service bay, Over There, I said thanks and went inside the bay and couldn't find the oil display (Remember the quart glass oil container rack with the funnel screw on lid, for bulk oil)
I then asked the guy under the lube rack, where the oil was, he pointed to the guy outside I just got directions from, ask ole Bobby Ray, he'eal fix ya-rat-up.
Now feeling I'm getting the run around and this was the only Chevron station in this small town, went back to Bobby Ray and asked again for oil, he looked at me like I fell off a turnip truck, Ah jist tol ya Over ther now pointing back the service bay...then stepped two steps and pointed again, He's rot there, Now I'm confused more then ever and asked I need some oil for my truck. Oooohhh he said I thought you were looking for Earl, he pronounced as like oil.....I am 30 weight oil....

In Texas I found that Oil, Earl and All are pronounced the same, to my ear at least and also there are two kinds of Rats, the mousy kind and Rat Now, and if the Rat has been deceased a long time and smells bad... its a Rattin Rat
