Early Bird gets the worm

one of my favorite science fiction authors, Robert Heinlien, says:

"The Early bird get the worm... means the worm shoulda stayed in bed."

Two birds wake up and spot worm but there is an oily pool between them and the worm. One bird decides to go around the oil and the other bird decides to go thru the oily pool.
Which one gets the worm?

"The "oily" bird gets the worm!!!
