I swear to God this really happened.

I renewed my Florida driver's license this year. Because of Homeland Security requirements (they claim) you now have to prove who you are before they'll renew your license. The fact that you have a current, valid Florida drivers license with your picture on it means nothing.

You have to have utility bills with your name and address. You have to have a birth certificate or passport. And you have to have your social security card, or a letter from the Social Security. After standing in line for half an hour I was told that means a letter 'which states that you have applied for a replacement social security card'.

So, off I went from the DMV to the Social Security offices where I waited some more. When my turn came I explained that I needed a replacement social security card and a letter stating that I had applied for the card. The lady was very polite but firm - I had to prove who I was before I could get a replacement social security card. And what did she ACCEPT as proof of my identity??? MY DRIVERS LICENSE!!!

Oregon used to allow anybody to get a drivers license - homeland security made it clear that if they didn't tighten up the rules the Oregon Drivers License would not longer be honored at the airports as proof of ID - that finally got the liberal governor to make some changes. You now have to prove your in the country legally to get a drivers license - one side benefit is that you can now walk into the DMV and there are no longer long lines of illegals waiting to get drivers licenses. Law might not be perfect but it's better than nothing.

Most of the security rules and regulations are for show. Flying for instance. Many of you have in your pocket an instrument that can deliver death, or be made to deliver death. I'm NOT talking about any explosive. You just don't know it. Most everything around us is a weapon of sorts. It is impossible to prevent it all.

My son had the same problem in Georgia. He move to Cali but they let him keep his Ga license (with a hole in it) and gave him a Cali license. When he moved back (before his old Ga had expired) they made him prove he was a citizen. Believe it!!!!

But the true travelers are they who leave for leaving’s sake

Yep, went through the same stuff in Utah last Sep. When she asked for proof of citizenship I said, doesn't my 32 years of having a Utah license prove anything, she said no. So I tried my Military ID, no that wasn't good enough. Seeing as how she was getting a little upset I gave her my pass port and social security card and she accepted those to allow me to renew my lic after 32 years of living there. So, if we have to prove citizenship to get a license, how the heck are all the illegals getting licenses? Also, if there are foreign students here going to school, how are they driving on our roads?

If you were a former Marine you would not have to ask that question.

Point of order. There are no former or ex, etc Marines. Marine Corps has a standing order to that effect. There are only Marines. "Once a Marine - always a Marine." (Except for those who were booted under less than honorable conditions)
