Mother in law story (true)

True story: back when the speed limit was 55 nationwide but had just been given back to the states to decide we lived in SC. We were driving MIL back to catch her flight out of Charlotte. The posted speed limit sign on I-77 still said 55, but everybody, including me, was doing about 65 or so because we knew the sign just had not yet been but soon would be changed to 65. A trooper pulled me over. He asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I said "about 65 I think". He said you were going 68 what is your rush? I pointed out my MIL in the rear seat and explained to him that she had been visiting us for several weeks and we were taking her back to the Charlotte airport to catch her flight so you can understand my rush to get there. He burst out laughing and said "I never heard that one before" and gave me a warning ticket. My wife and MIL were not so amused.

Funny

When my wife & I got married I didn't buy her a engagement ring. We both got simple bands. About 10 years after we got married my wife got it in her head she wanted a nice wedding ring and told her mother. We were driving somewhere and my wife commented that she sure wish she had a ring and the MIL chimed in and said "Yes Jim, when are you going to get her a ring" & I responded "As soon as I decide to keep her". My MIL shut up very quickly.

I got along great with my Mother-In-Law. One day as I walked into her house she hauled off and punched me hard and I do mean hard! Good thing it was my shoulder, but dang, it hurt! I looked at her and said "What was that for?". Her response: "You looked like you NEEDED it".
