My Night Before Christmas rewrite

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the coach
Not a creature was stirring, not even a roach;
The privacy shades were pulled down with care,
In hopes that our neighbors would stop trying to stare.

The children were grown and in their own sticks,
Now they stayed up late assembling the tricks;
And mamma in her gown, and I in my robe,
Were getting some sleep before hitting the road,

When under the awning we heard a strange sound,
I rolled from the bed to see who was around.
I pushed the button and turned on the lights.
I peered out the window and to my delight,

The lights on the eve of the awning showed clear
The one who was parking around us so near.
No reindeer nor sleigh were parked by my site,
But I shook my head for I doubted my sight.

A little old lady was trying her best
To help the old man park his fiver and rest.
She pointed to the left and then to the right,
Moving like snails the two were a sight.

And then with a twinkle I opened the door
For I saw they had been beside us before.
A sweet little fellow, but round as a ball.
His wife even sweeter, he made her look tall.

I waved with my hand and was turning around,
When out of his truck he came with a bound.
His shorts and his shirt made his skin look so fair,
I knew that that our snowbirds were glad to be there.

We took just a moment to share in a hug,
Then started to hook up his fiver so snug.
With all of us working things went quick and fine
So soon we were finished and drinking some wine.

This life on the road chasing spring and the fall
Can make you miss holidays with family and all,
But the family we choose in this crazy lifestyle
Brings joy to our lives and makes it worthwhile.
