Near Death, Almost Robin Williams Moment

Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, my scant command of fluid dynamics almost led to my first poop in the shoe moment.

Our community has a marina with RV parking and dump station.

'Problem is, for environmental reasons, the latter is surrounded by a mound of pavement presumably so a small spill will remain contained.

Well, this means that the drain hose (Rhino, 15') from my rig has to descend, then climb up a foot, then descend, and climb onto the 10" pipestack (if you desire a threaded lock).

I was skeptical, but arrayed the hose cradle so the delivery was as level as possible.

Treating the slide valve like a live grenade, I gently pulled a half-inch. There was the comforting rumble of sewage through the hose, as always; I was ready to add to the parade with more discharge when I noticed bubbling around the edge of the previously tight-as-a-drum slide body and the hose connection.

Turning off the valve, I hand-tightened the connection, re-checked the integrity of the hose, and tried again. More leakage. Now, I had an ominous apple-sized brown puddle on the floor of the bay. Yikes. Gently lifting the hose a section at a time to "help" the contents into the drain much like an inchworm travels, I next tried an injection of grey water. MUCH more leakage. This is when I decided to abort a potentially catastrophic mission.

To back out of a stinky situation as gracefully as possible, I filled the hose with grey water several times, and manually did the inchworm trick to coax its contents into the drain. After the third cycle, I removed and capped the hose. Then, everything got drenched in Clorox Cleanup, including my own gloves (which were promptly discarded).

The bay was rinsed and spritzed with Clorox, twice.

Yes, an amazing amount of pressure can be generated if that hose has to climb AT ALL. A setup that leaks not a drop when "it rolls downhill" can become leaky when pressurized. So, never, ever, ever ask tank pressure to hasten contents' exit from the RV; instead, let it cascade downward without resistence (even then only after checking and re-checking every connection).

Also, if emptying into a blueboy, make sure you open the vent. That was a very unpleasant Robin W. moment.

I'm sure glad I have a "Sewer Solution". I'd hate to be in a fix like that with a Slinkey!!!!!!!

Ahhhhh, life would be sooooo much easier if dumping the stinky were a thing of the past. We need some genius to work out a system that evaporates and freeze dries it all...BUT WAIT... our friends at NASA have done all that. For the mere price of 15 million dollars the engineers at NASA can fit it all in a convenient lil baggie, oh how we love progress !!!

And to think the taxpayers ask "what do we get for our tax dollars..." they need to mail a "baggie" to anyone who complains.

You might go to Camping World and purchase a Sewer Solution. I've had mine for 4 years now. And guess what, it will push the stuff uphill!!! 20 or 40 or more feet away too.
