You all may be of the wrong generation. Made perfect sense to me. I got no benefit out of geometry (or algebra for that matter). Accounting should've been a required subject in high school.....especially since I do my own taxes.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

I also understood. But over the years I have had "better educated" people tell me I'm using subjects I never studied in school. (Might of made fewer mistakes if I had)
To me, the country would be better, if we had Pop Warner Politics. Or let the students vote on some class rules, and learn from that. Yes teacher would need some veto power...

When I went back to grad school for Industrial Engineering I had to take advance math classes, one of which was "Solving Complex Problems" using complicated methods.

I use that knowledge everyday dealing with my DW.

One of the first times I remember being told I was using geometry was building a trailer frame. Measure corner to corner thru center. If both the same, the corners where square.
I once hired a guy to work for me when he was laid off from his normal job. He told me what he had been making per hour, and I told him that I didn't think his percentage would match, but I would use him while I looked for another driver. His first payday, he told me that the check was bigger than what he was used to. I checked my numbers, then asked to look at his check stub. The stub showed hours, and rate per hour but H*R was about $100 more than gross pay.
2 things shocked me; 1) a high school grad that could/would not figure out how much he should be paid, and 2) a employer would be so stupid to print it out and hand the guy proof he was screwing him every week. (Next rain day we went to the office of the lawyer I was using for overloads. I don't know how big of settlement he got, but he bought the truck he was driving.)

So, what's the connection between taxes and a parallelogram? Will there be a quiz at the end?

I used to be good at Geometry, but now I have Google Maps and Garmin to find out where I am.

Sorry, couldn't stay out of this one...
