They were both wrong, but I liked the ending.

Yep, it looks like that as with many road rage incidents both were at fault and a little courtesy would have prevented it from starting.

The must be from the LA area. I am staying Anaheim and drive to Torrance almost daily. I find if you put on your turn signal everyone speeds up to close the gap. To change lanes you have to use a head fake similar to a football running back. If I want to move to the right lane I look in my left mirror, everyone assumes I want to go left and they close up on that side, then I shift my eyes right without moving my head and move right.

A little courtesy on the part of the other driver in the video would have allowed both drivers to have arrived at their destination a lot happier.

Abbotsford to North Van has incidents like this all the time. Even during rush minute here in Port Alberni sometimes tempers flair!

For those of you who may think sdennislee is kidding I assure you he's not. Grew up in San Diego from '64 (age 10) to '06 and had been doing these traffic survival tricks for the last 10 years I lived there. Soooo glad to be out of that area and in a rural environment where courtesy is a way of life.

Try the "turn signal fake right," then turn left.

There has been one thing that I have found over the years. Turn on the turn signal and if clear to merge, merge, if not, start the merge and "chicken" them. Most of the time they blare the horn, shoot the bird, and scream at you, but they do let you in. I don't like doing it, but sometimes it is just very necessary. Most of the time I'll just go the extra distance until I can move in, or exit. So far, so good.

You know, on our last trip out West to CA and points North I found that, in the MH, most of the on-the-road drivers where pretty fair about letting me in with proper turn signal indication. I did the same.

Yes, the guy in the car was a jerk but all the van driver had to do was drop back and pull in behind so he is no better. I am amazed he didn't cause a wreck.
I see similar behavior on my morning commute. So many refuse to or don't know how to merge safely, they wait until there is little more than a tissue space between vehicles then ram heir way in without signalling sometimes resulting in a crunched door.

On January 13, 1982, Air Florida flight 90 departed Washington National Airport (as it was named at that time) during a winter storm and crashed into the Potomac River, killing 74 aboard the Boeing 737 and four motorists crossing the 14th Street Bridge.

Now, the rest of the story (according to an acquaintance of mine): the winter storm resulted in most government agencies releasing their employees from work early. Any time there’s a mass release during a snow storm, you can be sure that traffic will be adversely affected. A co-worker of my acquaintance was proceeding home from the DC side of the river and came to a pinch point on his route. Two lanes merge into one; most drivers courteously allow one car from each lane to alternately merge. As you might guess, not all drivers are courteous. The friend of my acquaintance was cut off by one of those discourteous drivers who would not allow the other lane to alternate the merge and cut off my acquaintance’s friend. This put the offending driver immediately in front on my acquaintances friend as they inched across the 14th Street Bridge. Yes, this event wouldn’t merit my mention here, were it not for the fact that, on January 13, 1982, it seems that the penalty for that discourteous act was to be struck by the 737 as it fell from the sky, putting the discourteous driver into the group of four.

Some might suggest that there is justice in the universe. Seems pretty severe, to me.

Take care,
Stu
