Now don't fly off the handle or go off half cocked!

I love knowing the origins of words and sayings too. (I could be the only one who cares)

Flying off the handle- came from chopping wood and the head of your ax came off the handle during a swing and hit someone.

Going off half cocked- from Civil War time when rifles malfunctioned and fired when not fully cocked.
