Sister Bessie
Got a letter today from my Mom, back home. Crops are dry and no rain in sight. Mom said, you know Son that Sister Bessie has died. It was quite a shock to learn that my friend of 30 plus years had died..Awhhh I remember many a good hour spent with her, romping the fields and back roads of that little rural county in Georgia... Brings a smile and a tear as i think of her. Well , first thing ever morning i greeted bessie with warm hands and a kind word to be gentle , I stroked her breast and combed her hair ever morning for pretty near 25 years and then turned her over to Mom to finish out the rest of their days... I didnt know who would go first, Sister bessy or Mom.... Mom talks like she will miss her strolls down to Moutn Moriah ever campmeet'in time with Sister Bessie, I'm sure they had a good time togather..She was a kind and gentle soul and I will remember her fondly as I look at the pictures of her and Mom that grace our living room wall... Mom said they buryied her under the big oak tree overlooking Briar creek and put some nice flowers on her grave....I wes always in love with Sister bessie, she was the best doggone Milk cow we ever had........
