Small Town Justice::::::

Small Town Justice

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. ''But officer,'' the man said, ''I can explain.''

''Just be quiet!!!'' snapped the officer. ''Or I'm going to let you cool off in jail until the chief gets back.''

''But officer, I just wanted to say...''

''And I said KEEP QUIET! Now you're going to jail!''

A few hours later, the officer checked up on his prisoner and said, ''Lucky for you the chief is at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a great mood when he gets here.''

''Don't count on it,'' said the prisoner. ''I'm the groom.''

A Somewhat related, but true story!

A couple of years ago I bought a car in Dallas, TX. Flew down there to drive the car back to Michigan. I was driving north from Dallas on US 75 towards Oklahoma. I was unfamiliar with the highway and it was getting dark when all of a sudden I realized that the supposedly freeway had turned into a four lane highway going through a small town in OK. Before I could slow down I noticed in my rear view mirror a police car trying to pull me over. I stopped, the officer came took my driver's license and went into his car. I waited, it seemed like at least half an our, before he came out of his car to tell me that I was driving with suspended license, DWI. I was shocked to hear that, and told the officer that it must be a mistaken identity. I told him if that was true I will sign him the title to this new car. He replied, I believe you, but I have to tell you I cannot let you drive like that. If something happened to you down the road, I will be responsible and possibly lose my job. He asked me to come into his car and he will show me. As I looked at his seemingly new computer on his rig, I saw my name, address to be all correct and saw one large field across the entire length of his monitor flashing in red. He explained to me that "...you see this flashing red line, it indicates a suspended license".
To make a long story short, my new car was towed into a compound and the officer told me that he will put me in jail unless I post a $400 cash bond. He drove me to an ATM where I luckily was able to withdraw $400 dollars to pay him. He then dropped me off at the only hotel in town until I can sort this out tomorrow. In the morning of the next day, I asked the hotel clerk if he could take me to the police station which he did. When I arrived at the station shortly after 8 a.m. only the clerk at the desk was there and told me to wait until the chief arrives. Shortly after, the chief of police walked in and saw me waiting outside his office. A few minutes later he came out to tell me that he is working on it. I waited for at least two hours before they could resolve the issue, give my $400 back, take me to where I picked up my car.
The police chief was very nice, apologized for the mishap. His explanation was that the department has contracted out the after hour police duties to an outside firm and they simply do not know how to read out of state license records on their newly obtained computer system.
So much for a small town USA police!
