Small Town Quotes

Those who grew up in small towns will laugh when they read this.
Those who didn't will be in disbelief.
1) You can name everyone you graduated with.
2) You know what 4-H means.
3) You went to parties at a pasture, barn, gravel pit, or in the middle of a dirt road. On Monday you could always tell who was at the party because of the scratches on their legs from running through the woods when the party was busted. (See #6.)
4) You used to "drag" Main.
5) You said the "F" word and your parents knew within the hour.
6) You scheduled parties around the schedules of different police officers because you knew which ones would bust you and which ones wouldn't.
7) You could never buy cigarettes because all the store clerks knew how old you were (and if you were old enough, they'd tell your parents anyhow).
8) When you did find somebody old enough and brave enough to buy cigarettes, you still had to go out into the country and drive on back roads to smoke them.
9) You knew which section of the ditch you would find the beer your buyer dropped off.
10) It was cool to date somebody from the neighboring town.
11) The whole school went to the same party after graduation.
12) You didn't give directions by street names but rather by references.
Turn by Nelson's house, go 2 blocks to Anderson's, and it's four houses left of the track field.
13) The golf course had only 9 holes.
14) You couldn't help but date a friend's ex-boyfriend/girlfriend.
15) Your car stayed filthy because of the dirt roads, and you will never own a dark vehicle for this reason.
16) The town next to you was considered "trashy" or "snooty," but was actually just like your town.
17) You referred to anyone with a house newer than 1965 as the "rich people."
18) The people in the "big city" dressed funny, and then you picked up the trend 2 years later.
19) Anyone you wanted could be found at the local gas station, drive-in or the town bar.
20) You saw at least one friend a week driving a tractor through town or one of your friends driving a grain truck to school occasionally.
21) The gym teacher suggested you haul hay for the summer to get stronger.
22) Directions were given using THE stop light as a reference.
23) When you decided to walk somewhere for exercise, 5 people would pull over and ask if you wanted a ride.
24) Your teachers called you by your older siblings' names.
25) Your teachers remembered when they taught your parents.
26) You could charge at any local store or write checks without any ID.
27) The closest McDonalds was 45 miles away (or more).
28) The closest mall was over an hour away.
29) It was normal to see an old man riding through town on a riding lawn mower.
30) Most people went by a nickname.
31) You laughed your head off reading this because you know it is true, and you forward it to everyone who may have lived in a small town.

Grew up in a town of 2000 or so..........

And there was nothing better than a road party!

32: You had moved out of town many years ago and....
A) you could cash an out of town check (pre ATM days) with no questions asked.
B) when you walked into the (only) bar and looked around you would have run right back out the front door if you hadn't known everyone.
33: Your last high school reunion was held in a classmates barn (yes it was, and it was great!)

Population about 750, no stoplights, no paved streets, only 1 cop, actually he was called a constable, 1st one I remember was my great uncle, later my dad had the job. There were no street names or house numbers, 24 in my graduating class, I still find friends in the bar when I go back.

Small towns are all the same.
I got my drivers license at 16 and was Gone. Couldn't wait to see the world.
Now, I'm back to a small town. No desire for the big city.
Funny how life works.

In the summer. Only flashing lights in the County. 70 miles to the mall. 51 to McDonalds. Live on the biggest lake in the state, 3 miles to a NP. 25 to the grocery store. No longer have a Barber shop in town. "AN LOVIN IT"

I didn't grow up here but live in such a town now.
McDonald's 15 miles - not a single fast food chain in town.
Mall over an hour via a bridge to the north or a ferry to the south.
Graduating class about 45.
Population about 1500, deer walk down main street.
Many of the kids in school today do have the same teachers as their parents.
A recent funeral procession was lead by the casket on a hay trailer behind a restored John Deere followed by 20 other tractors.

Population 3500, 8 people in my graduating class, got my drivers license at 15, cost 15 cents to go to movies, started milking cows when I was 5 years old, Dad gave us our first car, a 1932 Model A Ford, when I was 14 and brother was 16. Lots more "good old days" memories!

Grew up on a farm, town was three miles away, but hardly went there. Worked in construction until college, then got a job in a cousin's town at the local trucking company. Swing shift almost over, I jammed down to the local bar before closing for the all night poker game. The first time, I didn't really know anyone, but the cop n town walked the streets shaking doors and such, comes in for coffee. Understandably nervous, they laughed when I asked if we were in trouble, then they explained I was sitting at the table with the police chief and mayor!

I was a small town compared to a city. 1949 we all left our front and back doors open. everybody knew everybody's business. All the names of our neighbors had at least three vowels and ended in a vowel in every street within three blocks. the main streets still had cobble stone and trolley tracks and the old barge run with the tow path was still in place.
We carried our 22 rifle over our shoulder as we rode our bike to the local shootin pit. the local foundry was still making 20 mm shell casing and the RR still was running steam engines. 10 year old children were able to roller skate on the road with our clip on skates and never feared for our lives. WE walked to church and to school - of course up hill both ways and climbed over snow bank and play in piles of Autumn leaves on the road before our dad burned them. civil defense and the ground observer corps was a way of life as was crouching under our desk at school or hiding in the hall way bend over ready to kiss the world goodbye.

people also had time to enjoy one another back then - why are we so fast now - What was your name - I forgot it already. Oh Well >>>>> none of that exist today.
