I chopped more than one of them in my shop and they were good bikes. Still, not too many around compared to the Harleys....
You're probably right, but you might be surprised how many of the Honda SOHC fours (750, 500-650, 350-400) are still running with more being brought back on the road all the time - they've become a "hot item". HERE is a forum dealing exclusively with the Honda SOHC fours.

Harley's are like Jeeps when it comes to restoration and resale. There's a cult following behind it that keeps the market going. How else can you explain the insistence to revive such unreliable poorly built machines. For the longest time I thought I wanted a Jeep, that was right until the day after I bought one. What a harsh riding, poorly built POS that was as well.
I laugh when I see pudgy little men on Harley's wearing Harley boots, a pull start wallet, Harley tee shirt, Harley jacket, Harley fingerless gloves, Harley doo rag, and a skull cap with stickers all over it and surly one that reads FTW or DILLIGAF. I imagine what they do for a job and what they look like dressed up for work.

I built this one in 1996 with after market parts. Put on 120,000 miles and had the motor rebuilt. Just got done turning 32,000 again. Trouble free fun riding.
Had one Harley, in 1977 bought a BMW and never looked back. In fairness to Harley's, I do think the new ones are much more reliable than the past generations.

Love them old pans! Had a few of them. Foot clutch and jockey shifter. 1 cable. My chopper above has a 4 gal coffin tank so it isn't too bad. Around 160 miles to the tank. I also built a custom Fat Boy type bike that has almost 80,000 on it and no problems there other than regular maintenance.

Boss has (or did as he died a couple months ago) a V-Rod, it's not stock. Getting on the throttle hard produces black rubber streaks and lots of tire smoke even up to 80+ mph.
Actually he has three Harleys, even the Sportster engine isn't stock.

Ok newbee, wantabee, I'm sure it made the Jap people laugh.... Truth is you won't see many 20 year old Jap bikes on the road but there are thousands and thousands of 20+ year old Harley s....
I had a 1987 Yamaha Venture with over 117K that I traded off this year. Just about every brand out there has some good bikes that will last a long time with the right care and maintenance. And all brands get ragged on by somebody at one time or another. I know this from all the times I have come back to my bike to find rice under it, even when I was careful to drain all the rice out before I left it.
